#927: On Reciting Qunūt Aloud In Salaatu Al-‘Asr
“Assalamu’alaikum wa rahmatullāh wa barakātuh. Good evening. I have a question… Yesterday, I was praying Salatu ‘Asr behind the Imam in a Masjid, then in the last raka’a, after ww rose up from the ruku’, he recited Qunut aloud just like that of the last ten days of Ramadan (during Tahajjud)…
Is this permissible..”
ANSWER:
Wa Alaykum Salam Warahmatullah Wabarakaatuh
Know, may Allah bless us and you, that the Ulama of Islam are at a consensus that the Qunut is not recited for Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha unless when there is a matter of importance or distress happening to the Muslims.
Imam Ash-Shawkani mentioned this in Sharhu Al-Muntaqa.
As for making the Qunut during Salatu As-Subh, then the matter is that of difference among the Ulama. We referred to that in Question 445 on our Telegram Channel. But whenever there is a matter of distress and dire need in the Muslim community, the majority of the Ulama have considered it permissible and encouraged (Mustahabb) to recite the Qunut.
If you say, should it be recited audibly on Dhuhr and Asr too?
I say, yes this is the position held by most of the Fuqaha.
Shaykh Muhammad bn Saalih Al-Uthaymin referred to this in Ash-Sharhu Al-Mumti’.
And Allah knows best.
Baarakallahu Fikum.
