#34. OBSERVERVING THE FAST AND NEGLETING THE SALAAT
” As Salamu Alaykum. Ya Admin, what is the ruling concerning a Muslim that is fasting but not observing salat? There is a Christian woman that’s fasting because her husband is a Muslim. Is there fasting valid?”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum salaam warahmatullaah wabarakaatuh
As for the woman who observes the fast only because her husband is Muslim, then more deserving is that she becomes Muslim entirely. Let her husband and all that are close to her intensify their call to her to become Muslim for ONLY in it is her salvation and the validity and acceptance of her fast.
It should be known that Salaat and Fast are of the five pillar of Islam aside which there is no Islam.
The Ulamaa of Islam in their entirety have formed a consensus that whosoever abandons the Salaat intentionally and by way of rejection (juhud) apostates from Islam. Whereas, they differ slightly on the one who abandons it due to excessive lazyness. The safest and soundest of both views is the kufr of the one who abandons it due to laziness or rejection.
We ask Allah for succor.
Therefore, it is incumbent upon those who are close to the one to whom you referred to caution and do a lot of wa’adh to him for he is on the brink of losing his faith.
