#194: Ruling on a Woman using Pills to delay Menstruation during Hajj or `Umrah

QUESTION

ON WOMEN USING PILLS TO DELAY MENSTRUATION DURING HAJJ OR UMRAH

“Malam is it allowed for a female to use drugs to hinder her menstruation to enable her complete hajj, umrah or fast?”

Answer:

It is a serious difficulty for a woman to be on Hajj and ‘Umrah and then for her menstruation to cause her to terminate it.

For this reason, if there is no harm that can be caused to her by taking the drug, it becomes permissible for her to take it to hinder the menses. Many of the Scholars of our era permit such.

This does not apply in the case of the fast. And that is because there is no difficulty attached to fasting that cannot be expiated for unlike the Hajj which is difficult to make up for in a coming year.

Allaahu A’alam!
