#272: Ruling on Laylatul Qadr Night

Question

As-Salaamu Alaykum Admin. What is the ruling of laylatul qadr? Is the night different from other qiyam layl? What are those thing expected to do in laylatul qadr? Can we do our laylatul qadr individually or with congregation? Jazakallahu khayran

ANSWER

SALAM Alaykum Admin ;

Wa alaikum salaam Wa Rahmatullah Wa barakatuh.

whAt is the rulling of laylatul quadri?

It is the night in which Allah revealed the Quran. Because Allah said;
Indeed, we revealed it (the Quran) in the night of decree. Quran 97;1

It is a blessed night because Allah said;
Indeed, we revealed it in a blessed night. Quran 44;3

It’s a night in which Allah make the decree of what will occur for the next year. Because Allah said;

Therein, every wise command is determined. Quran 44;4

Is the night different from other qiyam layl?
Yes it is because Allah said

The night if decree is better than a thousand months. Quran 97;3
What this means is, the worship that is done in this single night is more rewarding than when that same worship is done in a thousand month.

WHT are those thing espected to do in lAylatul quadri?

To increase in the act of worship you used to do. Especially, recitation of the Quran in salah. Because this was the action of the rasul and the companions on the night they most suspected to be that night.
And a lot of istigfar in sujud. Because Allah has mentioned this as a quality of the pious.
He said taala,
And they seek forgiveness in the hours before dawn. Quran 51;18

Can we do our laylatul quadri individually or wth congragation?

I think the question should be can we worship alone or in congregation in the nights which we think the night will occur?

If this is the question, then we say, it’s more rewarding to engage in the night prayer in congregation rather than observing the night prayer alone.
And by prayer we mean tarawih or tahajjud or qiyamul lay (based on how you refer to it for all still refer to one same thing).

As for doing some other form of worship like organising a special dua in congregation and observing it in a stadium just as Christians usually do, then such actions are Haram. And if one engages in them, it shows that such a person has been deprived. May Allah protect our deen.

And Allah knows best.

Jazaakallahu khairan!
