#1137: Is There Any Proof In The Sharī’ah For Sending Jumu’ah Messages?

Assalamu alaykum warahmatullahi wa barakatuh , I have question regarding this jumu´ah message that is circulating every jumu`ah does it have any origin from sunnah or from the predecessors.

May Allah grant myself and you ease.

Beloved One, know, May Allah be pleased with us altogether, that though the Day of Jumu’ah is one of the Days of Eid for the Muslims as was stated by Umar Bn Al-Khattaab radiyallahu anhu, there has not been any records of a special greeting made by the Sahaabah to themselves on Jumu’ah. So we find that the Days of Fitr and Ad’ha were particular days in which Muslims celebrated, prayed and congratulated themselves, there is no record of congratulatory messages on the Day of Juma’ah.

The Sahaabah know the Sunnah and the Bounties of the Day of Jumu’ah than myself and you, yet it wasn’t a part of their actions to do that.

Specific Messages that remind people for the bounties of Jumu’ah are praise worthy, for these are Specific Admonitions that remind people of its Bounties and what to do to earn its rewards. However messages of greetings that say “Jumu’ah Mufeedah” or “Jumu’ah Mubarak” and all these, are merely new things brought into the Din as if they were a part of the Sunnah of Juma’ah.

There are Ulamaa that hold that there was nothing wrong about this if it was said by way of greetings not tied to the Sunnah and by way of Du’a not claimed to be a part of the Din. But the question that reads itself loud is, if there was good in this, it would have been hastened to by the Sahaabah and their Taabi’in and if they did it, it would have been recorded and couldn’t have been skipped. The Narrators of Sunnah did not miss the greetings of the two Eids despite the fact that it was once a year. Likewise they didn’t miss any of the Sunnah of Jumu’ah. Why then would they have missed this?

Beloved One, if then you ask me what my proof is for making this statement, I will say, the onus of proof does not lie with me, it lies on the one who wants to establish these forms of greetings as a tradition in the Din. That is because deeds that are specific, defined and done at particularly defined times, when they are attributed to the Din, cannot be accepted and allowed unless they are sanctioned by Allah through His Messenger salallahu alayhi wasallam. This is known to the Students of Knowledge and was mentioned by the Ulamaa in the Books of Sunnah and Bida’ah.
