#1024: On How The Rasul Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam Observed The Raka’atayn Al-Fajr
“I came across an Hadith that the prophet pbuh used to observe raka’ataynil fajr as so fast, it is as though he doesn’t recite surah fatiha. Pls Can you give me a step by step manner of putting this into practice?Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah Wa barakatuh”
ANSWER:
Wa Alaykum Salam Warahmatullah Wabarakaatuh.
Alhamdulillah.
It appears like the Hadith to which you refer is the Hadith of Aa’ishah radiyallahu anha where she said:
“He used to observe two light raka’at between the Adhaan and the ‘Iqaamah of Salaatu As-Subh”
This was recorded by both Imam Al-Bukhari and Muslim.
In another Wording from them both, she said:
“He used to observe the two Raka’at at fajr time when he hears the Adhaan. He would make them light to such an extent that I would wonder whether he recited in them both Ummu Al-Qur’an (Suratu Al-Faatiha)”
This is because he recited in them both Suratu Al-Kaafirun and Suratu Al-Ikhlas after Suratu Al-Faatiha.
It is also known that sometimes he would recite in the first Raka’a the verse:
From Suratu Al-Baqarah.
And on the second Raka’ah the verse:
The verse in Suratu Aal Imraan.
It is also known that he would lie down after its prayer for a very short while before the time he would step out for the Salaah.
What is meant by her wondering whether he recited Suratu Al-Faatiha is a reference to his fast recitation in comparison to what she was used to of the recitations and standing of the Rasul salallahu alayhi wasallam in his Salaah. This is because she had mentioned that he would take his time in the recitation of the Qur’an during the Salaat. It does not mean that he doesn’t recite surah fatiha or that she was doubting its recitation. As Scholars like Abubakr Al-Asamm and Ibrahim bn ‘Ulayyah have claimed.
This is because the Rasul salallahu alayhi wasallam already told us that:
“Every Salaah in which the Faatihatu Al-Kitaab was not recited is deficient and unacceptable”
This that we have mentioned is the explanation given by the Maliki Imam and Haafidh Ibn Abdilbarr An-Namari rahimahullah in At-Tamhid.
Barakallahu fikum.
Jazakumullahu Khayran.
