#1030: On Wedding Cakes
“Assalam ALAYKUM warahmatullahi Wabarakaatuh. Is it bad to do wedding cakes? Or to avoid it in other not to emulate the non-muslims?”
ANSWER:
Wa Alaykum Salam Warahmatullah Wabarakaatuh
Cakes in themselves are of the halal things for consumption and there is nothing wrong with and in preparing cakes for wedding ceremonies and serving them to guests or giving them out as a part of the Walimah of the Nikaah.
However if you mean the cakes that are customarily prepared for wedding ceremonies in this Era where the couple present themselves in front of them and cut them in front of the audience, or which the husband puts into the mouth of his wife and the wife into the mouth of her husband, all of these are Haraam and one of the most despicable traditions of the Kuffaar which some Muslims have emulated.
Can’t you see that in the doing of that is transgressing the limits of Allah of not concealing what is meant to be a private affair in the relationship between couples and the intimacy, and the emulation of the Kuffaar? May Allah protect us from that.
There is no doubt that this is Haraam that must be avoided by a Believer who wants the barakah of Allah in his or her Nikaah.
We ask Allah for steadfastness upon His Path and the forgiveness of sins, amin.
Barakallahu Fikum
Jazakumullahu Khayran.
