#329: Ruling regarding Cauterization

QUESTION

” Please Admin. Explain well what is cauterization.”

*ANSWER*

Alhamdulillaah, we are very sorry for the serious delay in answering your question. May Allaah forgive us all, aameen.

Cauterization is the use of very hot items or chemical substances to burn of a tissue in the body either to stop bleeding or to seal an open wound. Usually, this method involves the damaging of the tissues exposed to the burning such as the veins or arteries exposed.

We have explained in our answer to the question that generated your question that the Rasul – salallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam – mentioned how effective it is but discouraged it unless there was dire need for it.

Shaykhu Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyya mentioned in As-Siyaasatu Ash-Shar’iyya that it is to be used to seal off the wounds after amputations. But of course, if there are more modern and medically effective ways aside that in this era, they would be better.

Allaahu A’alam
