#330: Ruling on Eating at Fidau Prayers
QUESTION
“Please help me with this. Can I eat food in FIDAU PRAYER”
ANSWER
Alhamdulillaah, we ask Allaah to be merciful upon the living and the dead among the Muslims, aameen.
We are glad to realise from your question that you deem and realise that Fidau Prayer that is organized by families after death is not sanctioned by the Law Giver (Allah). We ask Allaah to bless and reward you, aameen.
If the prayer Itself is an innovation, it follows that the food that people Cook on that day, if the food was prepared by the bereaved is also unsanctioned.
However, there is nothing wrong in the people who are coming to greet the bereaved cooking for them and bringing it for them to eat and relieving them of the burden of cooking for themselves.
Therefore, if you visit a people who were bereaved and lost a relative, you should not eat from what they cooked regardless of what they call it. Instead the sunnah is for you to Cook for them and to help them with food. But if you are a part of the bereaved family, there is nothing wrong in you eating there.
Allaah knows best.
