ANSWER:

Wa Alaykum Salam Warahmatullah Wabarakaatuh.

Beloved One, know that there are three different kinds of curses in the Shariah.

The first, is that which is pronounced on a particular person or group of persons that are named and referred. For instance, Allah cursed Iblis
He ta’ala said:

لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ وَقَالَ لَأَتَّخِذَنَّ مِنْ عِبَادِكَ نَصِيبًا مَفْرُوضًا

“Allah cursed him and he said: I will indeed take an appointed portion from Your Servants (to misguide)”

The second, is that which is pronounced on a group of people that are not mentioned in name and can be generic to a people. Like where Allah said:

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَعَنَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ

“Indeed Allah has cursed the Disbelievers”

The third is where a curse has been placed on the doer of a particular deed or deeds.

As for the first category, then when it comes from Allah and the Messenger, it is an indication or a confirmation of the establishment of curses on that person.

As for the second and third category, the generalization of the curse on that group of people or doers of such an act does not generally imply that every single one of those who belong to the group are cursed. There could be factors that make one or more of the elements of that set be exempted from the curse.

Qaadi ‘Iyaadh said:

“And the Curse of a Category of people is applicable. Because there is divine threat from Allah on such a people, and then He executes such a threat on Whomsoever of them He wishes” He mentioned this in Ikmaalu Al-Mu’allim.

Now, what does it mean?

Raaghibu Al-Isfahaani mentioned that curses, when they come from Allah imply distancing them from his mercy and Bounties on the Day of Qiyaamah. And in the Dunya, it is cut off from his mercies and a hindrance from Tawfiq. And when it comes from a human, it means a prayer against such a person.

From what has preceded, it becomes clear thereby that the fact that Allah cursed the Doers of a particular act, it doesn’t mean the curse applies upon every single doer of the act. Whosoever has fallen into such acts, then let him hasten to repent to Allah that he or she may not be held into the category of those from whom the bounties and mercies of Allah have been withdrawn.

And Allah knows best.

Barakallahu fikum
