#414: The Islam or Kufr of the Homosexual
QUESTION
“Salamun alaikuma ya admin, pls is the anything like (a gay muslim,)is a gay considered to be Muslim”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum salaam warahmatullaah wabarakaatuh
Alhamdulillaah.
Firstly, it is important to note that homosexuality is one of the most greivious things that one can do as a sin.
Despite that, there is consensus among the leading Ulamaa among the predecessors and the successors that homosexuality does not necessitate kufr.
Imaam Muhammad Ibn Abibakr Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyya – rahimahullaah – mentioned in his book ‘Al-Jawaabu Al-Kaafi’:
“And the People have differed on whether it (homosexuality) is worse than Zina, Zina is worse than it or they are same in evil. The varying positions are three:
The position held by Abubakr As-Siddiq, Ali Ibn Abi Taalib, Khalid Ibn Al-Walid, Abdullah Ibn Az-Zubayr, Abdullah bn Abbas, Khalid Ibn Zayd, Abdullah Ibn Mu’ammar, Az-Zuhri, Rubay’ah Ibn Abi ‘Abdirrahman, Maalik, Is’haq Ibn Raahawayh, Imaam Ahmad in his sounder narration and Ash-Shaafi’i in one of the reports from him; is that it is more severe of punishment and more grevious of sin. And this is the position referred to by many of the Fuqahaa as the Ijmaa (consensus) of the Sahaabah.
There is no sin that is more grevious than the evil and consequences of Homosexuality except KUFR.”
Therefore, the fact that it is possible to be gay and Muslim does not mean that it is to be tolerated and belittled.
Allāhu A’alam
Bārakallāhu Fīkum
Jazākumullāhu Khayran.
