#429: Ruling on Employment in Banks

Alhamdulillaah!
Firstly, we are sorry for not responding to this question as early as you posted it.
With respect to banks that deal in usury, it is Haraam to work in such banks.
This is based on the Hadīth in which the Rasūl – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – said:
ﻟﻌﻦ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺍﻟﺮﺑﺎ ﺁﻛﻠﻪ ﻭﻣﻮﻛﻠﻪ ﻭﻛﺎﺗﺒﻪ ﻭﺷﺎﻫﺪﻳﻪ، ﻭﻗﺎﻝ ﻫﻢ ﺳﻮﺍﺀ ”
“Allāh has cursed Riba, the one who eats it, the one who records it and the one who witnesses to it.” And he (salallaahu alayhi wasallam) said: ‘they are same in ruling’.
