Attaahiyatu lillAahi, Azzaakiyatu lillAahi, Watoyyubaatu solawaatu lillAahi, Assalaamu’ alayka…….. Is the correct?

Is that phrase correct?”

ANSWER

Alhamdulillāh!

The two wordings you have mentioned are established in the Sunnah.

The first, to which you said you were accustomed is by recordedy by Imām Al-Bukhārī, Imām Muslims, Ibn Abī Shaybah, and others from Abdullah Ibn Mas’ūd – radiyallāhu ‘anhu:

Whereas, that which you heard in the community you visited is the Tashahhud recorded yby Imām Mālik – yrahimahullāh – in the Muwattā as to have been recited by Umar Ibn Al-Khattāb – radiyallāhu ‘anhu – on the Minbar, and in the presence of the Sahābah.

Mālik considered that since none of the Sahābah objected, it was agreed upon by them.

For this reason, this is the preferred Tashahhud in the Mālikī School, and it is accepted as sound by Ulamā of other Schools as the Hadīth is authentic as was mention by Al-Albānī – rahimahullāh – in Sifatu As-Salāh…

There are other variations in the wordings of the Tashahhud that have come in Sahih Ahādith, and in the recitation of any of them is sufficiency. Though most of the ‘Ulamā prefer the Tashahhud of Ibn Mas’ud, the one to which you said you were accustomed, because it came in the Sahihayn and was more recited by Ulamā and Students of Knowledge.
