#536: Reading Surātul Kahf on Friday
QUESTION
Can I Recite My Suratu Al-Kahf On The Night Of Friday? Given That I Have Tight Schedules During The Day?
” As salaam ‘alaykum wa rahmatullAah wabarakaatuh… During tahajjud on Fridays, can we read suratul kaf…I do have tight schedule after Fajr solaah”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.
Alhamdulillāh.
It should be known that observing this recitation is one of the deeds that are highly recommended. Though the Muhaddithūn differed on the authenticity of some of the Hadīth that recommended this, the stronger position is the Authenticity of these Ahādith.
Know also, may Allāh be merciful to us all, that his recitation is recommended for both the nights and the days of Jumu’a.
It has been recorded by Imām Ad-Dārimī – rahimahullāh – in his Sunan from the Companion Abū Sa’īd Al-Khudry – radiyallāhu ‘anhu – that the Rasūl – salallāhu alayhi wasallam – said:
من قرأ سورة الكهف ليلة الجمعة أضاء له من النور فيما بينه وبين البيت العتيق
“Whomsoever recites Suratu Al-Kahf on the *Night of Jumu’ah*, it will illuminate for him a light that covers all that lie between him and the Ancient House (Ka’aba).”
This Hadīth was declared Sahih by Shaykh Muhammad Nāsiruddīn Al-Albānī – rahimahullāh – in Sahīhu Al-Jāmi’
Since the Ahādith regarding its recitation came recommending its recitation on the night and day of Jumu’ah, the Ulamā mentioned that its recitation begins from after Maghrib on Thursday to just before Maghrib on Friday.
Al-Munāwī – rahimahullāh – said in Al-Faydu Al-Qadīr:
“It is therefore recommended to recite it on the Day of Jumu’ah, likewise its night as was mentioned by Ash-Shāfi’ī – radiyallāhu ‘anhu.”
Therefore, if by Tahajjud on Fridays you mean Tahajjud on the night between Thursday and Friday, then you are right. But if by that you mean the night between Friday and Saturday, then you are wrong.
And it is better for you to recite Suratu Al-Kahf outside your Qiyāmu Al-Layl so that you earn the merit of its recitation separate from your merit for observing the Qiyāmu Al-Layl.
