#555: Ruling on using Faint Sounds in the Background for Promotional Videos

QUESTION

” As salaam ‘alaykum warahmatullAah wabarokaatuh. I want to do a promotional video for my product. Can I use faint sounds at the background?”

ANSWER

Wa alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.

We ask Allāh to bless your Halāl Business and to make it a source of bounties for yourself and the Ummah, āmīn.

As long as the sound used in the background is not a peculiar sound from any of the three categories of Musical Instruments, then it is Halāl.

The three categories referred are:

String instruments such as the guiter

Pipe instruments such as the trumpet

Percussion instruments such as the drum

Please note that a digitized form of these are also Harām because what is considered is the sound, not the instrument.

You may use natural sounds in the background, we ask Allāh to empower you and the Ummah economically, āmīn.
