#566: Ruling on Fasting Three Days to seek something from Allah
QUESTION
” As-salam alaykum warahmatullah wabarakatuh, pls what is the justification of a person who decided to fast three days to make du’a for needs?”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.
Alhamdulillāh.
While such a person may not have an evidence of the Qur’ān and the Hadīth that specifies three days fast for him to make his Du’ā, his deed falls under the general permissibility and recommendation of _At-Tawassul_ that is agreed upon by the ‘Ulamā.
Hākimu An-Naysābūrī and Ibn Mājah – Rahimahumallāh – recorded from ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Amr Ibn Al-‘Ās – radiyallāhu anhumā – that the Rasūl – salallāhu alayhi wasallam – said:
“إن للصائم عند فطره لدعوة ما ترد”
“Indeed the One who is observing the Fast has the privilege of a Du’ā, at his time of breaking, that will not be unaccepted.”
We ask Allāh to accept our ‘Ibādāt and to grant us du’ā acceptance, āmīn.
Bārakallāhu fīkum
Jazākumullāhu Khayran.
