#575: Ruling on Cooking for a Non-Mahram
QUESTION
“Asalamu alykum…Pls can a woman you have not marry but just proposed to cook food for you in fasting”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.
Alhamdulillāh.
Those who fear Allāh and seek to block all the ways through which Iblīs may fester and spin a Fitnah avoid such things. If there is no relationship between you and a sister, why will you have her cook for you?
In the first place, most of the ‘Ulamā considered it Harām to speak to a Non-Mahram Muslim woman without a need for it.
Al-‘Allāmatu Al-Khādimī – rahimahullāh – said in his book Barīqatun Mahmūdiyyah:
“Discussions with a young female opposite sex is not permissible without need because this is a place that leads to Fitnah”
These discussions are only permissible if there is security from Fitnah.
That said, why then will you seek that she cooks for you when this is one of the biggest ways through which Fitnah can fester? And why will she offer to make such for you in particular while this is a great door for Fitnah to fester?
Desist from that and flee from it.
Allāh has said:
يا أيها الذين آمنوا لا تتبعوا خطوات الشيطان، ومن يتبع خطوات الشيطان فإنه يأمر بالفحشاء والمنكر
“O you who believe, do not follow the footsteps of the Shaytān. And whosoever follows the footsteps of Shaytān, then indeed he commands to evil and shameful deeds”
The footsteps of Iblīs are the places of Fitnah where he sets his traps and seek to snare the believers.
If your intent is to court her, then have it done in its right way.
Now, if you are engaged to marry each other and permission has been granted by her Parents or her guardians, and in her cooking for you there is no Fitnah that goes beyond the limits set out by the Sharī’ah while courting, this is permissible and Allah knows best.
