#605: Observing Salāt behind an Imām through the Television or Radio
QUESTION
“As-Salaamu Alaykum kindly explain to us the ruling on following d prayer from the radio or television or frm d mosque”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh
Alhamdulillāh
It is not permissible to observe Salāt behind an Imām through a radio set or a television. This is because the one observing the Salāt that way misses the condition that have been itemised by the ‘Ulamā of all of the Madhāhib to be a must before one can pray outside the Masjid.
They placed one of the following conditions:
1. That the Rows (Sufūf) are connected and reaches the place where the Prayers are been made by the Imām
2. That he can see the Imām or any of the followers for the entirety or almost all of the Salāt.
Al-Hajjāwī mentioned these in Zādu Al-Mustaqni’ and Al-‘Uthaymīn – rahimahullāh – established this same position we have mentioned in Ash-Shar’hu Al-Mumti’i
Bārakallāhu fīkum
