#662: Ruling on keeping One`s Plans Secret until it is executed

QUESTION:

“Assalam alaykum, please adm what is the islamic view in keeping things to oneself until everything is done. I have someone, any time he inform people of his steps in his business and other things, the program will fail after a lot of input and even run into dept.”

ANSWER:

Wa Alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.

Alhamdulillāh!

Firstly, it is important to recall that everything that occurs happens with the Knowledge of Allāh and His leave for without His leave, nothing can ever come into existence, whether a noun or a verb.

The Muslim needs to understand and live this in his life and this is why a complete reliance upon Allāh is Obligatory and required.

Secondly, the Ulamā are at an agreement that a Muslim cannot say for certain that there are evil spiritual hands in any of his affairs until there has been proofs to certainty. Likewise it is Harām to accuse one or more persons of same unless evidences have been found that confirm the indictment of such persons.

We are saying this because some people have taken the affairs of Sihr and it’s accusation so serious to an extent that this has caused break in marriages and in families.

Thirdly, though you may not be sure, it is permissible to take precaution if you are unsure and you have reasons to reasonably suspect. As long as it does not go to the extent of attributing falsehood and Kufr to others and does not result into straining of relationships and family ties.

Fourth, what you have referred to is permissible and even encouraged in a hostile environment as the Rasūl – salallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam – has said in the Hadīth recorded by Imām At-Tabarānī in his three Ma’ājim from the Companions Mu’adh bn Jabal, ‘Alī bn Abī Tālib, Ibn ‘Abbās, Abū Hurayrah and Abī Bardah – radiyallāhu ‘anhum:

استعينوا على قضاء حوائجكم بالكتمان فإن كل ذي نعمة محسود

“Seek assistance in the execution of your needs with secrecy for every one possessed of a Bounty is envied.”

Though the Hadīth was referred to as Munkar by Abū Hātim Ar-Rāzī.

And weak by Hāfidh Al-‘Irāqī and Imām As-Asyūtī Rahimahumullāh.

Shaykh Muhammad Nāsiruddīn Al-Albānī rahimahullāh declared as Sahīh one of it’s Chains in As-Silsilatu As-Sahīhah.

And Allāh knows best.

Bārakallāhu Fīkum
Jazākumullāhu Khayran.
