Q&A (Fatwa)

#671: Ruling on the Three Days Prayer for the Deceased

QUESTION:

“Is there any evidence for 3 day prayers for a deceased person ?”

ANSWER:

Alhamdulillāh.

It is important to make prayers for the Deceased at the time of their death and whenever one remembers them or comes across their Graves.

There is however no justification in the Sharī’ah for what people do in this era of gathering for three days prayers, seven days prayers and forty days prayers or their likes.

Such gatherings add other innovations to their existence as they are made to involve cookings, beating of drums some times and other things unsanctioned by the Sharī’ah.

We ask Allāh to save us from all of these.

Stick to the Sunnah dear one, for it is the Ship of safety.

Bārakallāhu Fīkum
Jazākumullāhu Khayran.
