#798: When is it right to say `Īd Mubārak?
798. QUESTION
“Assalamu’alaykum warahmatullah @admin. Question:when is it right to say the greeting(eid mubarak) is it immediately after eid sallah or before it…”
ANSWER:
Wa Alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.
Alhamdulillāh, as for this greeting, Imām Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalānī – rahimahullāh – has recorded in the Fat’h from Jubayr bn Nufayr that he said:
“كان أصحاب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا التقوا يوم العيد يقول بعضهم لبعض: تقبل منا ومنك
“The Companions of the Messenger of Allāh – salallāhu Alayhi Wasallam – anytime they meet on the Day of ‘Īd, they say Taqabbalallāhu Minnā Wa Mink”
This and other known means of congratulations such as Īd Mubārak is to be said on the Day of Īd and the Day of Īd begins right from when the Moon has been sighted for Shawwal for Īd Al-Fitr, and from the setting of the sun on the Day of ‘Arafah for Īd Al-Ad’hā.
And Allāh knows best.
Bārakallāhu Fīkum
Jazakumullāhu Khayran.
1st Shawwal, 1440AH.
