#834: Ruling on accepting Donation from Non-Muslim for Masjid Projects
833. QUESTION:
“Assalamu alaikum warahmatullah, please I have a question; what is the ruling on accepting a non-Muslim who want to help in a masjid project?”
ANSWER:
Wa Alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.
It is permissible to accept the wealth of Kuffār if they give it as gift for the building of the Masjid provided it will not give them a say in the affairs of the Muslims and will not imply a demeaning of the honor of Muslims such as the Kuffār making it a reference thing and it’s likes.
Shaykhu Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah rahimahullāh mentioned that it was permissible that a Masjid be built by a Muslim, a Fājir, and a Kāfir, but this is prefixed on the condition that it doesn’t by so doing become a Masjid that is administered by Kuffār and controlled by them. This is referred to as Masjid Dirār.
Our advice is that the brothers or sisters who are responsible for the building of this Masjid is avoid such donations due to the near impossibility of the Kuffār doing any of the aforementioned things that we referred above. We live in very trying times and we ask Allāh for Tawfīq and Istiqāmah upon His Path.
