#871: Ruling on the Essential of Standing at `Arafah and what it entails of setting one free from Hell

871. QUESTION

Question: sallam alaykum Ya Sheik, hope you are faring well, my question here is pls does that mean whosoever ALLAH set Free From hell on the Arafah will consequently Die a Muslim and will never Deviate in his Deen, and a promise he/she will be from dwellers of Paradise, jazakumullahu khyran.

ANSWER:

Alhamdulillāhi!

Know verily – may Allāh shower His blessings upon you – that, Allāh has attached some specific blessings and rewards to some months and days within the year so that His pious servants can compete in reward and hasten towards Him thereof.

Amongst the most greatest day is the day of ‘Arafah because Allāh has made standing at the ‘Arafah amongst the pillars of Hajj. In fact, it is the most essential pillar, for without it, there is no Hajj.

The Rasūl salallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam said:

Al-Hajj is (standing at) ‘Arafah.

Transmitted by Imām At-tirmidhī and Imām An-Nasāī. And Shaykh Al-Albānī declared it as Sahīh in Sahīhu Al-Jāmi’i #3172.

Amongst the virtues of ‘Arafah is that Allāh swears by it, and it is known that the Greatest (I. e Allāh) does not swear except with something great.

Allāh Ta’āla says:

Sūratu Al-Fajr, Verse 3.

Ibn ‘Abbās Radiyallāhu anhu said in the commentary of this verse:

Al-watr is the day of ‘Arafah and Ash-shaf’i is the day of slaughtering.

And this is also the statement of ‘ikrimah.

Latāifu Al-Ma’ārif.

It is reported from our beloved mother ‘Āisha Radiyallāhu anha who said: The Rasūl salallāhu’alayhi wasallam said:

There is no day on which Allāh frees people from Fire more so than on the day of ‘Arafah. He comes close to those( people standing on ‘Arafah), and then He reveals before His Angels saying, What are these people seeking.

Transmitted by Imām Muslim#1348.

The Rasūl salallāhu’alayhi wasallam also said:

On this day, Allāh Subhānahu Wa Ta’āla descends to the nearest heaven, and He is proud of His servants on the earth and says to those in heavens, look at My servants, they have come from far and near, with hair disheveled and faces covered with dust, to seek my Mercy. Even if their sins are as much as the sand or the froth of the sea, I shall forgive them.

Also, know that, many Ahādīth has been narrated regarding the virtues of Hajj in general.

The Rasūl salallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam said:

Whoever performs Hajj and does not commit any obscenity or commit any evil will go back (free of) sin as on the day his mother bore him.

Transmitted by Imām Al-Bukhārī#1521 and Imām Muslim#1350.

The Rasūl salallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam also said in the Hadīth reported from Abū Hurairah Radiyallāhu anhu:

…an accepted Hajj brings no reward except Jannāh.

Imām Muslim#1349.

That said. The Ahādīth above shows that whoever performs Hajj the way it is recommended will be forgiven all his sins and he will go back free of them like the day his mother bore him.

That means if he were to die on the spot – we pray to Allāh for good ending – he will be amongst the dwellers of Jannāh Allāh willing.

We say – And Allāh knows best- that does not mean after he/she performs Hajj may not fall into errors and shortcomings for man is created weak. And in fact, he can still deviate in his Dīn. And that’s why we are recommended to always pray to Allāh for forgiveness, guidance and steadfastness on the path till death. For without His assistance, one can slip at any time.

May Allāh bestow upon us thabāt and istiqāmah till death, Āmīn.

Allāhu A’alām.

Bārakallāhu fīkum.
Jazākumullahu Khayran.

Abū Yahya
