REFLECTIONS ON COVID-19 #6
It is from the Sunnah of the Rasul salallahu alayhi wasallam that he would control himself whenever he sneezes and cover his mouth as much as he can.
Imam Ahmad bn Hanbal, Abu Dawud Sulayman bn Ash’ath As-Sijistani, Abu Isa At-Tirmidhi and others among the Recorders of Hadith recorded from Abu Hurayrah radiyallahu anhu:
“The Prophet salallahu alayhi wasallam whenever he sneezes, he lowers his face, covers his face (mouth) with his hands or with his cloth, and brings down his sound by so doing”
This Hadith was considered Sahih by Imam Haakim An-Naysaburi in Al-Mustadrak and Adh-Dhahabi in At-Talkhis.
It aligns well with the Sunnah to sneeze into an handkerchief or into a tissue paper and to discard same.
