The Forbiddance of Eating Raw Garlic and Onions
REFLECTIONS ON COVID-19 #10
Among our Ulama were those that forbade the eating of raw onions and garlic while some of them disliked it, whether a person was about to attend the Masjid or not. The purpose behind this, as Ibn Qudamah Al-Maqdisi said in the _Mughni_ was to avoid the disturbance that its smell gives to others.
And in the Hadith of Muhammad bn As-Sabbaah radiyallahu ‘anhu that was recorded by both Imam Al-Bukhari and Imam Muslim in their Sahih, the Rasul salallahu alayhi wasallam said:
“Whosoever has eaten anything from this plant (of garlic and onions), let him not come close to the Masjid”
If this is the approach toward the one the smell from whose mouth is abhorred, what then should be the position for the one who has a disease that is capable of moving unto others with speed?
May Allah be our protection, amin.
