DAILY POST #37
Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalaani – rahimahullaah – said:
It is reported from Ibn Umar – radiyallaahu anhuma – who said: The Messenger of Allah – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – said:
“Let not any one of you make another person stand up for him from his sitting position so that he may sit on it. Rather, what you should do is to dress and create space (for others to sit in)”
Agreed Upon (by Bukhaari and Muslim)
This Hadith teaches the following:
1. The importance that the Rasul – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – gives to teaching and mentoring his Companions. We must realize that Islam revolves much around teaching and mentoring.
2. That in Islam, we are all one and we must not elevate ourselves above others by belittling them.
3. It is Haram in Islam for you to ask someone to stand up for you from his seat so that you can sit there. But if you were seated there before and then went off to do something, you have the right to excuse him from the seat as other ahaadith have specified.
4. The importance of accommodating others in a gathering and creating a space for them to also sit down and benefit from the gathering.
