DAILY POST #47

Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalaani – rahimahullaah – said:

It is reported from Ibn – Umar – radiyallaahu anhu – who said: The Messenger of Allah – salallaahu alayhi wasallam said:

” When one of you wants to eat , he should eat with his right hand , and when he wants to drink he should drink with the right hand , for the shaitaan eats and drinks with his left hand ” .
Transmitted and recorded by Imaam Muslim in his ”Sahih #2020

COMMENTARY

The hadith shows the importance of the following:

1. It shows that it is haraam to eat or drink with the left hand .

2. It shows that we should always distance ourselves from the path of the shaytaan and the path of the faasiqeen(transgressors ) , for they are the ones that do eat and carry out any honorable acts with the left .

3 . It is beloved and preferred to begin our activities with the right side like putting on shoes , eating , drinking , getting dressed , making salam and giving out things or collecting . On the other hand , anything that has to do with Najaasah ( impurity ) is done with the left side like entering toilet , toileting e.t.c.

Allaahu A’alam!

Baarakallaahu feekum!
