DAILY POST #64
Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalaani – rahimahullaah – said:
It is reported from Abu Hurairah radiyallaahu anhu- who said – The Messenger of Allah -salallaahu alayhi wasallam said:
“wretched is he, who is the slave of Dinar, the slave of Dirham, and the slave of Velvet(cloak bordered with silk). If he is given what he seeks for, he would be contented(I.e with Allah), but if he is not given, he is displeased.”
Transmitted and recorded by Imaam Bukhaari in his “Sahih”#6435.
COMMENTARY
The hadith shows the importance of the following:
1. It shows that the one who is engrossed completely in searching for dunya without caring about knowing the commandment of Allah has become a slave of dun ya.
2. It indicates that a wretched person is the one who is a slave of Dirham and Dinar.
3. It shows that anything that can occupy one completely without having time to worship Allah is blameworthy. However, seeking for what is necessity is not reprehensible. In fact, it is even compulsory upon him to seek for what will safeguard his honor, the honor of his family, the reputation of Islam and what will assist him in carrying out his wajibaat (obligations).
