#10. ON COMPENSATING FOR THE MISSED SALAWAAT BEFORE MAGHRIB
” I have a question concerning own prayer till Magrib time, is it allow to join Magrib when it’s been observed and after that pay all the prayer owed”
ANSWER
Alhamdulillaah!
Firstly, it should be known that to miss a Salaat and not to observe it within the stipulated time, out of laxity and sloth is among the signs of the Munaafiq and of the gravest of sins.
Allaah – ta’aala – said:
ﻓَﻮَﻳْﻞٌ ﻟِّﻠْﻤُﺼَﻠِّﻴﻦَ * ﺍﻟَّﺬِﻳﻦَ ﻫُﻢْ ﻋَﻦ ﺻَﻠَﺎﺗِﻬِﻢْ ﺳَﺎﻫُﻮﻥَ } ﺍﻟﻤﺎﻋﻮﻥ {5-4:
“So woe upon the observers of Salaat who bare negligent of their Salaat.”
The Ulamaa of tafsir explained that the negligent one so referred is he who delays the Salaat beyond its stipulated time.
Whosoever is engaged in this kind of act must seek Allah’s forgiveness and make immediate tawbah from it. This is of the utmost importance.
As for making up for what is missed, Maalik’s fatwa is that one may compensate for all that is missed whether it was missed intentionally or not. Ibn Hanbal held that such a compensation can only be made and is accepted if it was missed inadvertently.
Ibn Hanbal’s fatwa – rahimahullaah – holds stronger evidences from Sunnah.
However, going by Maalik’s fatwa, such a compensation must be made before Maghrib even if the time for observing maghrib has approached: given the situation you depicted.
