#135: Ruling on delaying Ghusl Out of Fear of Missing Congregational Salāt
*ANSWER*
Wa alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh
Alhamdulillāh. There is no way out for the person you mentioned other than to rush home quickly and in time to observe the Ghusl.
As a general principle, the Ulamā used to encourage us to hasten in the performance of Ghusl and never to delay it.
This is due to the Hadīth that was recorded by Imām Abū Dāwud – rahimahullāh – from Alī – radiyallāhu ‘anhu – that the Rasūl – salallāhu alayhi wasallam – said:
“إن الملائكة لا تدخل بيتا فيه كلب ولا جنب”
_”Indeed, the Angels do not enter upon the houses that contain dogs and people that are in a state of sexual impurity (Junub)”_
The Hadīth has been graded as broken in chain and weak. And there are several sound Hadīth that prove the contrary.
But the position of most of the Schools is to avoid delaying the Janābah unnecessarily due to ease with which it could be forgotten, the possibility of missing on the Salāt due to it, and others.
Therefore, such a man has no alternative other than hastening to return to his home or any other places to purify himself.
Allāhu A’alam
Bārakallāhu fīkum
Jazākumullāhu Khayran.
