#16. THE RULING OF KILLING INSECTS WITH POISONS
” As salamu alaykum waramatullahi wabarakatu. pls what is Islamic ruling on using poison to kill rat,cockroach and fly”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum salaam warahmatullaah wabarakaatuh
Alhamdulillaah Wa as-asalaatu Wa Assalaamu ala a rasulillaah.
It is firstly important to note that every living thing in this world, big or small has the right to live and it is haraam to kill is except for one of three purposes:
1. That it is killed for food – if it is among those that are permissible for eating.
2. That the Shari’a commanded us to kill it – if it is of those we were commanded to kill
3. That it is harmful to us, other living things, the society or the environment.
And whenever an insect falls under any of the three categories mentioned above, then we must kill it in the most merciful way using any means aside burning and fire.
This is because of the Hadith that came from the Rasul – salallaahu alayhi wasallam.
Imaam Abdurrazzaaq recorded in his Musannif from Abdurrahman Ibn Abdillah:
“We were in the company of the Rasul – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – when we passed through an ant house that has been burnt. Then the Prophet – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – said:
“It is not proper for a man to punish with the punishment of Allaah.”
In another Hadith, the Prophet – salallaahi alayhi wasallam – said:
“No one should punish with the fire but the Lord of the Fire.”
Recorded and transmitted by Abu Daawud and others.
Therefore, there is nothing wrong in the use of poison provided it is the easy way for you.
