Q&A (Fatwa)

#342: Ruling regarding Birth Control

” Salamun alaikum, akramakallah please is birth control halal in islam”

ANSWER

Wa alaykum salaam warahmatullaah wabarakaatuh

Alhamdulillaah! Regarding birth control, the Ulama a slightly differed on its permissibility but what is preponderantly sound of both verdicts is that it is permissible with the following conditions:

A. That there is a necessity that warrants it such as danger to the health of the wife.

B. That what is used to effect the control is neither hazardous, damaging nor permanent.

C. It is with the consent and agreement of both partners.

It is important to know that to practice birth control for the mere fear of poverty is abhorent in Islam due to what it entails of not putting trust in Allah.
