#351: Stern Warning to those Who Fabricate and Spread Lies against the Rasūl -Salallāhu Alayhi Wa Sallam
Assalaamu alaykum warahmatullaah wabarakaatuh
Alhamdulillaah! Brothers and Sisters, we should all try to learn to be gentle on ourselves and upon one another as a Muslim Family. That is the way we will represent Islam and propagate it. We ask Allāh for guidance. Āmīn
Dear one! May Allaah be merciful to us and to you. Aameen.
It is important to realise that whenever the wordings of the Rasul – salallaahu alayhi waalam – we concerned, we must exercise the must scrupulous caution that we can.
The Rasul – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – said:
ﻣﻦ ﻳﻘﻞ ﻋﻠﻲ ﻣﺎ ﻟﻢ ﺃﻗﻞ ﻓﻠﻴﺘﺒﻮﺃ ﻣﻘﻌﺪﻩ ﻣﻦ ﺍﻟﻨﺎﺭ ]
“Whomsoever attributes to me that which I did not say, let him take his seat in the Naar.”
: [ ﻣﻦ ﻛﺬﺏ ﻋﻠﻲ ﻣﺘﻌﻤﺪﺍ ﻓﻠﻴﺘﺒﻮﺃ ﻣﻘﻌﺪﻩ ﻣﻦ ﺍﻟﻨﺎﺭ ]
“Whosoever lies against me intentionally then let him take his seat in the Naar.”
[ ﺇﻥ ﻛﺬﺑﺎ ﻋﻠﻲ ﻟﻴﺲ ﻛﻜﺬﺏ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺃﺣﺪ ﻓﻤﻦ ﻳﻘﻞ ﻋﻠﻲ ﻣﺎ ﻟﻢ ﺃﻗﻞ ﻓﻠﻴﻠﺞ ﺍﻟﻨﺎﺭ ] “Indeed, telling lies against me is not like telling lies against anyone else. Whosoever attributes a statement to me that I have not said, then may he enter into the Naar.”
It is important to realise that the Hadith on the promise of Naar for the one who lies on the Rasul – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – is among the Ahaadith that are Mutawaatir. (I.e. whose number of chains are so numerous beyond doubt).
One of the Muhaddithun said:
ﻣﻤﺎ ﺗﻮﺍﺗﺮ ﺣﺪﻳﺚُ ﻣَﻦْ ﻛَﺬَﺏْ ﻭَﻣَﻦْ ﺑَﻨَﻰ ﻟﻠﻪِ ﺑﻴﺘﺎً ﻭﺍﺣْﺘَﺴَﺐْ
ﻭﺭﺅﻳﺔٌ ﺷَﻔَﺎﻋَﺔٌ ﻭﺍﻟْﺤَﻮﺽُ ﻭَﻣْﺴُﺢُ ﺧُﻔَّﻴْﻦِ ﻭَﻫﺬﻯ ﺑَﻌْﺾ
“Among those (Hadiths) which are Mutawaatir: the Hadith of the one who lies (against the Prophet); and that of the one who builds a house of Allāh in hope (of Allah’s reward); the seeing of Allāh (on the Last Day), the Intercession; and these are some.”
Imaam Ibn Jawzi – rahimahullaah – said:
“And this Hadīth ‘whosoever lies upon me intentionally’ was narrated by sixty one Companions from the Messenger of Allaah – salallahu alayhi wasallam -”
Ref: Al-Mawdu’aat
Some of the Ulamaa numbered the companions who narrated it to 86.
While majority of the Ulamaa hold that attributing false statements to the Rasul – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – is one of the greatest sins, some of them hold that it takes one out of the fold of Islam.
Among them are Imaam Al-Haramain Al-Juwayni, Abu Al-Fadl Al-Hamdhaani, Ibn Al-Wazir, Ibn Al-Munir, Qaadi Abubakr Ibn Al-Arabi Al-Maaliki, and Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-Haythami – rahimahumullaah.
The Maalik Imaam, Qaadi Iyaad bn Musa bn Iyaad Al-Ya’asubi Al-Andalusi – rahimahullaah – holds that whosoever propagates a fabricated hadith attributed to the Rasul – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – has the same ruling and punishment as the one who does the fabrication.
We must therefore be very careful when it comes to hadith. First, seek the reference if any Hadith you hear or read. Secondly, confirm its authenticity from the Ulamaa of Hadith if you are not one. Until you have done these two things, it is Haraam and a great sin to propagate such a Hadith.
We ask Allaah for guidance.
The Statement that you quoted and based your deed on is among the lies that have been fabricated in this internet age and attributed to the Rasul – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – by ignorant people.
Please let us all pay heed to that.
Bārakallāhu Fīkum
Jazākumullāhu Khayran.
Yours in Islam
