#353: Ruling on Women Reciting the Qur`an Loudly in Salat
” Is it good for a female to recite Quran loudly when praying?”

We are sorry for answering your question late.
It is important to note that the general ruling for women is not to raise their voices and not to make their voices enticing in the presence of men.
Allah – ta’ala – said:
ﻳَﺎ ﻧِﺴَﺎﺀَ ﺍﻟﻨَّﺒِﻲِّ ﻟَﺴْﺘُﻦَّ ﻛَﺄَﺣَﺪٍ ﻣِّﻦَ ﺍﻟﻨِّﺴَﺎﺀِ ۚ ﺇِﻥِ ﺍﺗَّﻘَﻴْﺘُﻦَّ ﻓَﻠَﺎ ﺗَﺨْﻀَﻌْﻦَ ﺑِﺎﻟْﻘَﻮْﻝِ ﻓَﻴَﻄْﻤَﻊَ ﺍﻟَّﺬِﻱ ﻓِﻲ ﻗَﻠْﺒِﻪِ ﻣَﺮَﺽٌ ﻭَﻗُﻠْﻦَ ﻗَﻮْﻟًﺎ ﻣَّﻌْﺮُﻭﻓًﺎ
“O Wives of the Prophet! You are not like any of the (other) women: if you do fear (Allah), be not too complacent of speech, lest one in whose heart is a disease should be moved with desire: but speak you a speech (that is) just.” Al-Ahzab: 32
The Ulamaa of Tafsir have explained that the forbidance of women speaking in a way that can stir desires in a man is forbidden in all instances including while observing Salaat.
Therefore, there is nothing wrong in a woman reciting the Qur’an melodiously, audibly and loudly in the presence of women but to do so in the presence of men will be tantamount to going against the injunction in this verse.
