#403: Observing Salātul Subh before Fajr
QUESTION
” Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah @admin, please can you explain the consequence of observing subh prayer before fajr?”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum salaam warahmatullaah wabarakaatuh.
Alhamdulillaah, the Fuqahaa of Islam both in the past and present have formed a consensus that any act of ‘Ibaadah that is observed before its Sabab (Condition that must be fulfilled before it is to be observed) is void.
Indeed, the Rasul – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – said:
( ﻭَﻭَﻗْﺖُ ﺻَﻼﺓِ ﺍﻟﺼُّﺒْﺢِ ﻣِﻦْ ﻃُﻠُﻮﻉِ ﺍﻟْﻔَﺠْﺮِ ﻣَﺎ ﻟَﻢْ ﺗَﻄْﻠُﻊْ ﺍﻟﺸَّﻤْﺲُ ) . ﺭﻭﺍﻩ ﻣﺴﻠﻢ
“And the time of Salaatu As-Subh is from the rising of the Fajr as long as the sun has not risen.”
Recorded by Muslim.
Therefore, any Salaat observed before the Fajr is not Subh and Subh must be repeated when the Fajr has appeared.
