#41. ZAKAATU AL-FITR WITH GUINEA CORN
” Asalamu alaykum Ya Admin, please I need you to guide me, concerning Zakaat after Or before the end of Ramadan please if I don’t have power to use rice can I use guinea corn and by when? At the same time I have a brother with 2 wife dat ask me to help him with Zakaat that he cannot afford to do so please what should I do? I manage things with my own family too. Jazakhallah khair.”
ANSWER
Wa alaykum salaam warahmatullaah wabarakaatuh
We ask Allaah to enrich us with His halaal and to make us content with what we have.
The ruling is to give the Zakaatu Al-Fitr from any staple food in the society in which you live. Therefore there is nothing wrong in you using the Guinea Corn if that is what you can afford.
As for the request from your brother with two wives, it is not obligatory upon you to help him in that regards unless you have the ability and capability to.
Therefore, do not stress yourselves beyond what you can as Allah did not make that obligatory upon you. And it is not obligatory on your brother when he is incapable.
