#437: Using of Perfumes in the Ramadan

QUESTION

” Can we use perfumes in the month of ramadan”

ANSWER

Alhamdulillaah Wa As-Salaatu Wa As-Salaamu Ala a Rasulillaah

There is nothing reported from the Rasūl – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – prohibiting the use of perfumes in the month of Ramadān.

As for the preferences of the Imāms, then know that the Hanafis, the Maalikis, the Shaafi’is and the Hanbalis in their dominant and official positions consider it permissible.

Imām Ash-Shaafi’i mentioned its permissibility in ‘Al-Umm’, Imaam Ibn Qudaamah in ‘Al-Mughni’.

Some of the Shafi’i and Hanbali Jurisconsults encourage avoiding it if its scent is so powerful that it goes as far as the brain. This was mentioned by Imām Zakariya Al-Ansaari in ‘Shar’hu Al-Buhja’.

Allāhu A’alaam

Bārakallāhu Fīkum
Jazākumullāhu Khayran.
