#58. MISSING A RAKA’AH OF JUM’A SALAAT
” I missed one rakah out of jumat prayer. How am I goin to make up for my missed rakah”
ANSWER
Alhamdulillaah!
Firstly, it is important to note that what is obligatory upon us is to respond to the call of the caller whenever we are called upon to observe the Salaat of Jumu’a, and to be careful with the timing so as not to lose it.
Allah – ta’aala – said:
: يا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا إِذَا نُودِيَ لِلصَّلَاةِ مِنْ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ فَاسْعَوْا إِلَى ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَذَرُوا الْبَيْعَ ذَلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ {الجمعة: 9}
“O you who believe! Whenever the call to the Salaat of the Day of Jumu’a has been made, then hurry to the remembrance of Allah and abandon transactions. That is better for you if only you know.”
However if you miss out a raka’ah, then you should observe what you have missed and then seek Allah for forgiveness for missing out the raka’ah and hope for the reward of Jumu’ah.
In the Hadith, the Rasul – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – said:
من أدرك ركعة من الجمعة فليصل إليها أخرى
“Whosoever meets up with a raka’a of Jumh’a, let him add one other raka’a to it.”
It is reported by Abu Hurayrah – radiyallaahu an hu – and recorded by Ibn Maajah and Al-Hakim
However, if you met what is not up to a complete raka’a, then you must observe Dhuhr in its stead.
This is due to the Hadith of Abu Hurayrah that is agreed upon by Bukhaari and Muslim:
من أدرك ركعة من الصلاة فقد أدرك الصلاة
“Whosoever meets up a raka’a of the Salaat, then he has met the Salaat.”
Allaahu A’alam
Baarakallaahu feekum
Jazaakumullaahu khayran.
