Imaam Abu Ubaydu Al-Qaasim bn Salaam (d. 224H) – rahimahullaah – said:
“The follower of the Sunnah is like the one holding on hot coal (that was in the past); and to me, today I see it more important than using the sword in the Path of Allah – AzzaWajall”
(Ref. ‘Kitaabu al-Imaan)
That was what sticking to the Sunnah of the Rasul salallaahu alayhi wasallam was like in the earlier generations. What the Imaam is referring to is that it is more important to ensure that one is on the footsteps of the Rasul – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – and sticking to his Sunnah than just carrying the sword in Jihad on the Path of Allah.
O People! Let us ensure that we are upon the right Creed (Aqidah) and in everything we do, we are upon the Sunnah.
