Imaam abu Shihaab Al-Hannaat said:

I heard Abu Husayn – i.e. Uthman bn Aasim (d. 127H) saying:

“Some of them (the Speakers of this era) would just single-handedly pass a fatwa on an issue that, had it been tendered before Umar, he would have gathered all of the people of Badr (for consultation) on the matter”

Honored Brothers and Sisters; this is the kind of scrupulousness that the Companions had when it comes to declaring things halaal or haraam. We must therefore be careful when it comes to answering questions on matters of Din so that we don’t misguide ourselves and others too.
