DAILY POST #98
Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalaani – rahimahullaah – said:
It is reported from Anas radiyallaahu anhu- who said – The Messenger of Allah -salallaahu alayhi wasallam said:
“Whosoever restrains his anger, Allah will keep His punishment from him on the Day of judgement.”
Transmitted and recorded by Imaam At-Tabarani in “Al-Awsat”#1342. Imaam Al Albani declared the hadith as a very weak hadith in “ADda’eefah”#1916
COMMENTARY
The hadith shows the importance of the following:
1. It shows that it is disliked for one to get angry unnecessarily. Anger is a temptation of shaytaan and
deception of shaytaan. It snatches away the wisdom of man and thus he become a brute beast devoid of any sense. Anger is the root of all evils. Anger is a spark of fire that are always bursting. Anger is a very bad condition that weakens the person’s Imaan. Anger is a strong feeling of annoyance, displeasure and hostility.
2. It indicates that when one restrains himself from getting angry unnecessarily, Allah will keep His punishment from Him on the day of resurrection. One cannot be able to attain this position unless with patience, forbearance and struggling hard with the soul. It is a very difficult task to attain. And that is why Allah Has placed a huge reward for the person that restrains himself from getting angry unnecessarily. Allah says about them:” “Whenever they are angry they forgive”.
3. It shows the status of the person who restrains himself from anger and shun away anything that might erupt the anger. As human being, we have our emotions, and sometimes we might lose our logic and we cannot control our emotions and this make us behave in a strange way. But if one suppress the anger, forgive and overlook, Allah will keep him away from His punishment.
4. Lastly, we have mentioned some authentic Aahaadith of similar meaning with the above hadith. We choose to bring up this hadith because we are translating serially from the book called Bulughul Maram under the Baab Attarheeb Min Musaawi Al-Akhlaq Therefore, the fact that we bring up this weak hadith does not mean that we are using weak hadith as evidence, but just to translate for those who might be following the book with us.
