DAILY POST #105

Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalaani – rahimahullaah – said:

It is reported from Abu Addardaa radiyallaahu anhu- who said – The Messenger of Allah -salallaahu alayhi wasallam said:

“Verily, those that are used to cursing others will not be intercessors or witnesses on the Day of Resurrection.”

Transmitted and recorded by Imaam Muslim in his “Sahih”#2598.

COMMENTARY

The hadith shows the importance of the following:

1. It indicates that it is disliked and abhorrent for one to be accustomed to cursing others. However, the hadith is talking about those that are accustomed to cursing others. In other word, cursing others have become their habit and not those that cursed others just ones or not frequently. Although, even if it is ones, it is disliked as we have made mentioned of some Ahaadith regarding that in our previous daily post. And moreover, the hadith is not also prohibiting cursing those that Allah Has cursed in the Quran or if the curse was mentioned in an authentic Hadith by the messenger of Allah salallaahu alayhi wasallam.

In this case, it is permissible to curse them. Example is the curse of Allah on the oppressors, His curse on the Jews and the Christian, His curse on the drunker and one that takes Riba(interest)etc.

2. It shows that whosoever is used to cursing others will not serve as witness on the day of Resurrection. What it means is that, he is not going to be among those people that will serve as witnesses on those nations before them to testify that their Messengers Has really passed the message to them.

3. It shows that those that are accustomed to cursing others will not serve as intercessors on the day of Resurrection. This means that they will not intercede on behalf of their Muslim brothers when others are interceding on behalf of their brothers on the day of Resurrection.

Allaahu A’alam!

Baarakallaahu feekum!
