#262: Ruling on Reciting the Qurʿān as a Gift to the Rasūl – Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam
Question
Reciting the Qur’ān to Gift to the Rasūl – salallāhu alayhi wasallam
” السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Can one recite the Qur’an with the intention of gift to the holy prophet?”
Answer
Wa alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh
Alhamdulillāh.
In the Qur’ān, Allāh tasked the believers with making Salāt on the Rasūl – salallāhu alayhi wasallam – when He said:
إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا
“Indeed Allāh and His Messenger make Salāt on the Prophet. O you who believe! Make Salāt on him and Salute him a worthy salutation”
Imām Al-Bukhāri mentioned from Abū Al-‘Āliyah – rahimahullāh – that what is meant by Allāh’s Salat on him is that He mentions him with greatness and exholation to the Angels while that of the Angels is their making Du’ā for him.
For this reason, the Ulamā have stated that if any, what is required of us toward the Rasūl – salallāhu alayhi wasallam – aside loving him by following his example and Sunnah, is to make Salāt on him like Allāh and the Angels do.
This is what is expected of us as Muslims.
Bārakallāhu fīkum
Jazākumullāhu Khayran
