#1146: About Imam Muhammad Bn Ahmad Bn Arafah Ad-Dasuki
Assalamu alaykum Shaykh.
Please I’d like to know a little about the Imam Ad-Dasuki.
Does The popular dasuki related to the Sokoto caliphate have any relationship with this imam or is it just a mere name.
ANSWER:
Wa Alaykum Salam Warahmatullah Wabarakaatuh.
He is Muhammad bn Ahmad bn Arafah Ad-Dasuki Al-Maaliki, a Polymath and Maaliki Imam who was grounded in Fiqh, Grammer, Eloquence, Geometry, Medicine and Astronomy.
He was born in the City of Dasuq in Egypt but studied in Cairo in the Adh’har University where he excelled in the Sciences of the Shar’iah and was a deeply studied and accomplished Shaykh.
He was known for his deep insights in the matters of Fiqh and authored several books on various Sciences. Of his works were his Commentary on Imam Sanusi’s work Ummu Al-Baraahin, a Book of Creed, his Haashiyah (Notes) on Ad-Dardir’s Shar’h on the Mukhtasar of Imam Khalil.
In his introduction to the later, he said:
“These are jottings and notes on the Commentary of our Polymath Shaykh, the Benefiter of the Students, the Nourisher of the Disciples, the one upon whom there is mercy, the Shaykh Ahmad Ad-Dardir Al-‘Adwi on the Mukhtasar of the Polymath Abu Ad-Dayaa’ Khalil bn Is’haaq which he wrote on the Fiqh of the Madh’hab of the Imam of the Imams and the Star of Sunnah Imaam Maalik bn Anas… ”
Ad-Dasuqi passed away 1230 AH in the City of Cairo, May Allah illumine his grave and unite us with him in the Firdaws, amin.
Beloved One, know that that is the Dasuqi that is mentioned in the Books of Fiqh.
However, in Sufi Circles, there is reference to the Sufi Imam Ibrahim Ad-Dasuqi who was the Proponent of the Dasuqiyyah Order of Sufism.
We do not know of any relationship between either of these two with the Dasuki family of the Sokotos.
And Allah knows best.
Barakallahu fikum
Jazaakumullah Khayran.
