#918: The Ruling On Multiple Janāzah Observed On The Dead In The Same Place By Different Imams
“Assalam alaikum warahmotullahi wabarokatuh. I have a question. In some parts of Yoruba land, if a big person died and we want to offer funeral prayer on such person, two,Three or four imams may lead the prayer one after the other, is this permissible? Please am waiting for the answer. Jazzakumullahu khoir”
ANSWER:
Wa Alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh
This is not Sunnah and it is a form of Bid’ah that should be avoided.
It has not been recorded from any of the Predecessors that they did this even though their dead were many times better than ours and their Imams were many times better in rank and discipline and closeness to Allāh.
What are these people trying to achieve by that or trying to convey of message? That the dead is high in rank to such an extent that several Janāzah has to be observed on him? Or that he is better than the masses and Generality of the people? Or that the Imāms are so important that they can’t follow one another in the Janāzah? Or that each of them must observe a Janāzah separately?
Whichever of these reasons is the reason for this is very Abhorent and unplaced.
This is not the Sunnah of the Rasūl -salallāhu Alayhi Wasallam.
And Allāh knows best.
Bārakallāhu Fīkum
