#340: Favorite Color of the Rasūl – Salallāhu Alayhi Wasallam
“As-Salaamu Alykum. Please I have a question , what is the rasul favourite colour”
ANSWER
Alhamdulillāh.
There have come two ahaadith in this regard.
White
It was recorded by Imams Abū Dāwud, An-Nasa’ī, Ibn Mājah, Ibn Hibbān, Al-Hākim and others from ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Abbās – radiyallāhu ‘anhu – that the Rasūl – salallāhu alayhi wasallam – said:
خير ثيابكم البياض
“The best of your Clothes is the White Coloured’
This Hadīth is Sahih.
Green
Imām At-Tabarānī recorded in Al-Awsat and Ibn ‘Adiyy in al-Kāmil from Qatādah from Anas – radiyallāhu ‘anhu – who said:
كان أحب الألوان إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم الخضرة
The best of colours to the Messenger of Allāh – salallāhu alayhi wasallam – was the Green Colour”
Shaykh Muhammad Nāsiruddīn Al-Albānī – rahimahullāh – declared the Hadīth as Hasan in As-Sahīhu Al-Jāmi’ and in As-Silsilatu As-Sahīhah.
Though one of the contemporary Ulamā of Hadīth Shaykh Sa’ad Ibn ‘Abdillāh Al-Humayd considered it Weak, the ‘Ulamā throughout our history have turned toward this Hadīth with acceptance.
It is also known that Green Robes, Green Pastures and Gardens are of the attributes with which Jannah is described by Allāh.
For these reasons, the Green colour have dominated the books of our ‘Ulamā as to have been a favourite Colour of the Rasūl – salallāhu alayhi wasallam.
Please note that there is no contradiction between White been the best Colour, and Green also been a favorite colour. What this only means is that both are favorite and excellent colours.
