Assalāmu Alaykum Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh
Honored brothers and Sisters on the Platform
May the blessings of Allāh be upon you this evening
And we ask Allāh to make us of the manumitted servants this Ramadān. Āmīn
As have been stated, we will be alternating this session with the Sharh of the very important book
_“Nasīhatu Ahli Az-Zamān”_ which was authored by the honored and illustrous Imām and Mujāhid, the Shaykh, the Mujaddid, Uthmān Dan Fodio – rahimahullāh
But first, let few words precede on the person of Shaykh Uthmān Dan Fodio rahimahullāh
*The Brief Life of Shaykh ‘Uthmān Ibn Fōdī.*
His full name is ‘Uthmān Ibn Muhammad Ibn Hārūn Ibn Muhammad ghurtu Ibn jubb Ibn Muhammad sambu Ibn Ayyub Ibn Māsirān Ibn būba Baba Ibn Mūsa and his laqab is Ibn fodio, Amīru Al-muminin, shaykhu Al-Islam, the devout ‘Ā’lim, Al-mujaddid, Al-Imām, Al-khalīfah and his al-kunya is Abu Muhammad.
The Shaykh was a religious preacher, writer, An Ā’lim and the founder of the sokoto caliphate. He was of the tribe of a famous urbanized
Fulani and a descendant of a torodbe family that was living in the north, he was given birth in degel in 15th December, 1754 and died in sokoto in 20th April, 1817. And Degel is a town in the city of Gōbir in the north.
The shaykh came from well learned and educated family. For this reason, most of his ulamaa are his parent, uncles, grandfather and he lives amongst since his youth age learning.
The shaykh followed the malik Mazhab in terms of fiqh. He was a well grounded shaykh in classical Islamic science, philosophy, and theology. He spent his life making dawah with his writing, speech and sword and he is considered amongst the Awliyā of Allāh.
In this regard, shaykh Mukhtār Ibn Ahmad Al-kanatī Al-qādiri was reported to have said about him:
_Our leader ‘Uthmān Ibn Fōdī, a waliyy amongst the awliyā of Allāh, and his jihad is of the truth one, and he will conquer all of this land._
The Shaykh was reported to have written many books and of the most famous book of his is ‘Ihyāhu Assunah wa Ikhmādu Al-bid’ah’ and he has 480 poems in Arabic and others in Hausa language.
What we have stated above about the Shaykh’s life is just a tip of it.
But whosoever desires to know about him and his Jihād should take his time to study either or both of the books below
1. _Tazyīnu Al-Waraqāt_
Authored by the Mujāhid Imām and Faqīh, an illustrious brother to the Shaykh, Shaykh ‘Abdullah Ibn Fodio, rahimahullāh,
…which he authored as a commentary on the series of many poems he wrote to commemorate all the occurrences of their Da’awah and Jihād life
From the inception of their Da’awah to their Jihād and the establishment of their Khilāfah

2. _Al-Infāqu Al-Maysūr_
Authored by the illustrious Shaykh and Sultān Muhammad Ballo Ibn Shaykh Uthman Dan Fodio
He was the son of the Shaykh
His authorship was on the History of the Black African lands to include the Life and Times of Shaykh Uthmān Dan Fodio his father

As for the illustrious book _”Nasīhatu Ahli Az-Zamān”_ that we intend to explain,
It was written by Shaykh Uthmān Dan Fodio during the course of his Da’awah and before the establishment of the State
In the book, he attempted to draw the attention of the Jamā’a, his followers and disciples to the importance of Taqwah, Da’awah and ‘Amr bi Al-Ma’aruf’ and ‘An-Nahy ‘an Al-Munkar’
It was meant to be a guide to his followers and students across the land on Inkār Al-Munkar
And because the book contains numerous benefits, we shall be expounding on its meanings
