“Nasīhatu Ahli Az-Zamān” (024)
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
الحمد لله رب العالمين
والعاقبة للمتفين
ولا عدوان إلا على الظالمين
والصلاة والسلام على من بعث رحمة للعالمين
وعلى آله وصحبه ومن اقتفى أثره إلى يوم الدين
Assalāmu alaykum Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh
Honored brothers and sisters on the platform
You are welcome to this morning’s session of the Halqah.
Bārakallāhu fīkum
We will be continuing with our Sharh of the important book Nasīhatu Ahli Az-Zamān An authorship of the Mujaddid Imām Shaykh ‘Uthmān Dan Fodio
Rahimahullāh.
We stopped at where he said, rahimahullāh
وقال أبو عمرو في تمهيده ألا ترى أن الصحابة اختلفوا وهم الأسوة، فلم يعب أحد منهم على صاحبه، ولا وجد عليه في نفسه
“And Abū ‘Amr said in his Tamhīd
do you not see that the Companions differed, and they are the ones to be emulated, and none of them levied blame at his Companion, neither did any of them hold any to heart?”
And we explained what he meant, rahimahullāh
He said;
ونقل أبو عمرو بسنده إلى الثوري إذا رأيت الرجل يعمل العمل الذي اختلف فيه وأنت ترى غيره فلا تنهه
“And Abū ‘Amr quoted a
chain to Ath-Thawrī saying whenever you see a person doing a deed about which there is difference and you hold other than his deed to be what is right, do not rebuke him.”
وقد أمر المهدي مالكا أن يجمع مذهبه في كتاب يحمل الناس عليه، فقال له مالك أصحاب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم تفرقوا في البلاد وأخذ أهل كل ناحية عمن وصل إليهم، فدع الناس وما هم عليه
“And Al-Mahdī once asked Mālik to compile his Madh’hab into a compendium so that he may unite the entire Muslims on it, but Mālik resisted saying the Companions of the Messenger of Allāh – salallāhu alayhi wasallam – spread into the earth and the people of each area picked knowledge from whom came to them of them. So allow people to proceed with that which they are upon.”
His reference here was to the wish of the Khalīfah during the time of Imām Mālik to make the Muwatta the official book of the Fiqh for the Caliphate.
And to make its following binding and obligatory upon every Muslim in the Caliphate and to repudiate the positions and fatāwah of other Imāms and Ulamā of Fiqh and Hadīth.
Mālik – rahimahullāh – refused, reminding the Khalīfah that the Companions of the Rasūl – salallāhu Alayhi wasallam – who are the champions and conveyors of the Ilm of the Sharī’a had travelled across the earth
and spread around.
It was apparent that the people of each city picked from the knowledge of the Sahābah that came to them.
May Allah be merciful to Mālik for he was sincere to the Ummah of the Rasūl – salallāhu alayhi wasallam
For its reason, Imām Al-Mubārakfūrī – rahimahullāh – said in his Shar’h on the Sunan of At-Tirmidhī _’Tuhfatu Al-Ahwadhī_
“Al-Hāzimī said in Kitābu
Al-I’tibār
the People of Knowledge are at an agreement that the Qunūt shouldn’t be done without a Sabab in any of the four Salāt Dhuhur, ‘Asr, Maghrib and ‘Ishā. He said and the people differed on Qunūt in Salātu As-Subh. The Madh’hab of many of the people from the Sahābah and the Tābi’īn and those after them among the Ulamā of the cities is that Qunut in it is right
And this is responded to by saying that there was never a difference in whether the Rasūl did Qunūt for Sub’h. Rather, the difference is in whether he continued it or it was abrogated.”
And that it was abrogated is the stronger of the two positions,
But, going by this difference, it is not right to condemn and rebuke the practice that is known in our society today without regard to this difference.
As our communities held unto the position upheld by Mālik and that was handed over to them from the students of Imām Sahnūn and their likes
We ask Allāh for hikmah in Da’awah.
For such corrections can only be made within students of Knowledge and propagated among same until an awareness in kind is made and achieved.
Bārakallāhu fīkum
We shall pause here Allāh willing for the week.
We ask Allāh to be merciful to us and to make what we have discussed beneficial to us in this Dunya and the Ākhirah
اللَّهُمَّ اقْسِمْ لَنَا مِنْ خَشْيَتِكَ مَ تَحُولُ بِهِ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ مَعَاصِيكَ، وَمِنْ طَاعَتِكَ مَا تُبَلِّغُنَا بِهِ جَنَّتَكَ، وَمِنَ الْيَقِينِ مَا تُهَوِّنُ بِهِ عَلَيْنَا مَصَائِبَ الدُّنْيَا، اللَّهُمَّ مَتِّعْنَا بِأَسْمَاعِنَا، وَأَبْصَارِنَا، وَقُوَّاتِنَا مَا أَحْيَيْتَنَا، وَاجْعَلْهُ الْوَارِثَ مِنَّا، وَاجْعَلْ ثَأْرَنَا عَلَى مَنْ ظَلَمَنَا، وَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى مَنْ عَادَانَا، وَلَا تَجْعَلْ مُصِيبَتَنَا فِي دِينِنَا، وَلَا تَجْعَلِ الدُّنْيَا أَكْبَرَ هَمِّنَا، وَلَا مَبْلَغَ عِلْمِنَا، وَلَا تُسَلِّطْ عَلَيْنَا مَنْ لَا يَرْحَمُناَ
اللَّهُمَّ احْفَظنِا بالإِسْلاَمِ قائِماً، واحْفَظْنِا بالإِسْلاَمِ قاعِداً، واحْفَظنِا بالإِسْلاَمِ راقِداً، ولا تُشْمِتْ بِنا عَدُوّاً ولا حاسِداً. اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّا نسْألُكَ مِنْ كُلِّ خَيْر خزائِنُهُ بِيَدِكَ، ونعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ كُلِّ شَرَ خَزَائِنُهُ بِيَدِكَ
Alhamdulillāh Awwalan Wa Ākhiran
