Imaam Ibn Qudaamah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullaah-
Said:
Inward ethics and importance of Hajj.
Know verily that, there is no way of moving closer to Allah except by shunning away from desires, abstaining from worldly pleasures, and devoting oneself exclusively to Allah in every moment.
And it was for this reason that the ruhbaan(ascetics of the past religions) used to isolate themselves from the people and retiring to caves in the mountain in quest of intimacy with Allah.
Thus, Hajj is decreed by Allah to be the ascetic act of this ummah. It is among the recommended ethics of the one who wish to perform Hajj to free his heart from all sort of things that might distracts him from Allah except what has to do with the obedience of Allah.
He should be simply dressed, not over adorned. He should use a simple riding beast for his transport and should abstain from being carried in a litter unless for some reasons. In this context, the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu alayhi wasallam is reported to have made Hajj on a riding camel.
Moreover, Imaam Ahmad transmitted the hadith below;
ﻭﻋﻦ ﺃﺑﻲ ﻫﺮﻳﺮﺓ – ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻪ – ، ﻋﻦ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ – ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ – ﻗﺎﻝ : )) ﺇﻥ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻳﺒﺎﻫﻲ ﺑﺄﻫﻞ ﻋﺮﻓﺎﺕ ﻣﻼﺋﻜﺔ ﺍﻟﺴﻤﺎﺀ، ﻓﻴﻘﻮﻝ : )) ﺍﻧﻈﺮﻭﺍ ﺇﻟﻰ ﻋﺒﺎﺩﻱ ﻫﺆﻻﺀ ﺟﺎﺅﻭﻧﻲ ﺷﻌﺜﺎً ﻏﺒﺮﺍً ”
رواه ﺃﺣﻤﺪ، /13 415 ﻭﺻﺤﺤﻪ ﺍﻷﻟﺒﺎﻧﻲ ﻓﻲ ﺻﺤﻴﺢ ﺍﻟﺘﺮﻏﻴﺐ ﻭﺍﻟﺘﺮﻫﻴﺐ، 2/33 .
Meaning: it is reported from Abu Hurairah radiyallaahu anhu who said- the Messenger sallallaahu alayhi wasallam said:
“Verily, Allah, boasts about the people at Arafah to the Angels saying, ‘ look at My servants: they came to Me, disheveled and dusty ……..”
Transmitted by Imaam Ahmad in His ‘Sunan’#415. Shaykh Al-Albaani declared it as Sahih in Sahihu Attargheeb wattarheeb( 2/33/no 1151).
Allaahu A’alam! Baarakallaahu feekum!
