Imaam Ibn Qudaamah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullaah-
Said:
Among the Adaab of sleeping, is for one to make sincere repentance to Allah, Most High, for it is required and beloved for the one who has purified his outward body to also purify his inward (I.e the heart). And it is also possible for him to pass away during his sleep.
In addition, one is recommended to steer clear of hatred, envy, oppression, and forms of sins in his heart before sleeping.
Moreover, one is highly recommended to write down his will. In this context, it is reported from Abdullahi Ibn Umar radiyallaahu anhumah who said_ The Messenger of Allah sallallaahu alayhi wasallam said:
“ماحق امرئ مسلم شئ يوصي فيه، يبيت ليلتين إلا ووصيته مكتوبة”رواه إمام البخاري(٢٧٣٨)، ومسلم(١٦٢٧).
Meaning:
“It is not deserving for a Muslim who has something to will to stay for two nights without having his last will kept ready with him.”
Transmitted and recorded by Imaam Bukhaari in his ‘Sahih#2738 and Imaam Muslim in his ‘Sahih#1627.
One is recommended not to make excess preparation of one’s bed, for this act might increase the time of his sleeping.
One is also recommended not to sleeping until one is overwhelmed by the sleep, for the pious predecessors do not sleep until they become overcome by it.
Allaahu A’alam! Baarakallaahu feekum!
